How to Use a Callotte or Clamshell

Callottes or 'clamshells' are used to create a neat ending to your beading.

How to Attach a Callotte

To attach simply slide the calotte over the wire then add a crimp. Place the crimp inside the calotte slide to the end of the wire and flatten with chain nose pliers. You may add a drop of superglue at this stage if you wish for added security. Trim off any excess wire with wire cutters then gently close the calotte over the crimp with chain nose pliers.

How to Attach a Clasp to Your Callotte

Use the hook on the end of the calotte to attach the clasp. Taking your round nose pliers hold the hooked end and gently roll the end over the loop of the clasp to form a neat circle.
